Borked en Farken
Jul. 18th, 2008 07:53 amYesterday, I finally got a day to spend hanging out with "the ex". First time in the whole frikkin show.
It was awesome-sauce in a can. We drove to Indiana to see a friend of his, who has a farm in whatthefuck-nowhere. A farmhouse from the 1700s, with Blackberry bushes. Queen Anne's laces were threatening a takeover. Views of rolling hills and elderly trees with clinging vines. Beautiful.
We picked blackberries and started taking photos, and I, of course, used my point and shoot. Until that is I reached a certain glade that had perfect lighting, when the camera started throwing out odd error messages on the display.. and then completely shut down. It had new batteries too, and those apparently drained.
Put in a fresh set of batteries, which lasted about .3 seconds before the whole camera just, coughed, sputtered, and died quietly in my hands.
Good bye, point and shoot.
Helloooooo Canon.
I'm now thoroughly glad the point and shoot bit the dust. Because for the first time.. I honestly feel like I've created art with my meager skills at photography.

Those are the three that really stood out. I *heart* my Canon.
Yesterday was filled with all sorts of shenanigans. After the blackberry and photo opportunities, his friend piled us into a beat up Subaru ( which shall forever now be known as the Super-Sube), and we drove on mountain roads to his Uncle John's farmhouse and to look at a stove.
Uncle John was pretty well into his beer by the time we thundered up. He showed us the house, the garden, his dogs, his fruit trees, and how he could dance with an annoyed horse.
Uncle John was fairly amusing.
Then drove up more mountain roads to get some great views of the valley and farms below. Spent time trying to figure out the 30-odd buttons on the Canon.
Drove back to the farmhouse via a road that was more a mockery than really a road. Massive amounts of fun and thinking " ha ha, hey look! Ground!".. The best was having the Super-Sube take a 3 foot drop where there was a break in the "road", and then climb back up the vertical hill to take ANOTHER drop.
Our final stop was Madison,Indiana. Ate at Hinkle's (which is kind of like White Castle and Waffle House making sweet, sweet love-spawn). Wandered the town and walked along the Ohio River. The full moon put a cap on everything.
Made it back to the Farmhouse around 1AM, and the ex and I drove back to site.
I missed out on making a lot of stock this week. But the daytrip was worth it. Every moment. The ex and I both have a lot of unresolved confusion and issues from the past, but thankfully, not really about each other. He's still the same person that I connect with on about a million and one different points.
Molly! will be here today. I can't wait!.. Although I feel bad that we're probably going to have to work most of the day because I seriously need to get more stock made. Fun Times.
***edit*** Had to throw this in.. Heavy metal monks make me incredibly giddy.
