F.U.C.K.--Longest Babbling Entry Ever
Nov. 11th, 2006 06:02 pmOh Holy Jesus.
Ok.. so.. Hi!
Brief ( ok really not so brief) rundown of all of these shenanigans that have been ongoing for the past couple of weeks. It's long.. and babbling.. so be forwarned.
Grog and I left AZ two weeks ago.. left very late.. with very little sleep, and lots and lots of stress with me trying to get everything packed and ready. Left 4 hours later than I wanted to.. drove, drove, drove... through New Mexico and a good portion of Texas.
I still haven't told Grog what "The Thing" is.. and I ain't gonna tell him.. he's going to have to see it himself.
Arrived at the Texas Renaissance Festival to see my friends and sometime bosses, the Trio (Jane,Jo,Randolph) and to pick up some of their stock which would be in my booth. Hung out there for a day.. got to see many a friend, and walk around the show ( we arrived on Sunday morning).. It's been 6 years since I've worked TRF and many things have changed.. but much is the same. This was Grog's first time seeing this show, and it's the second renaissance festival that he's seen.
I seem to be the cause of most of his Ren Faire edjumication.
Left TRF on Monday afternoon.. and drove straight to Hammond,Louisiana. Arrived that night and spent a wonderful time in a hotel room with a jacuzzi. Consumed much fast food and watched horror films.. and proceeded to crash the fuck out.
Drove out to site on Tuesday.. checked in.
It really is kind of exciting to see on my pass "Booth owner". I'm a dork. It's a right by birth dammit.
Found out that the tent had arrived. But not the tent poles.
Not. Good.
Tentsmiths said that they would ship the poles overnight air. Which meant that they would be arriving on Wednesday. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck me. Leaving us no time to make displays, pretty everything up, oh yeah.. and get Grog to the airport on time.
So,.. not much to do. I was planning on staying in the tent so Grog and I had nowhere to sleep. I didn't want to get another hotel room. It was Halloween. We spent most of the day wandering town and checking out Hammond. went to the movies and saw "Man of the Year" which was a hundred times better than what I expected.
Miss Kristi ( my best friend and booth manager) calls and says that she'll be at the site by midnight-ish.
Grog and I dally some more. Dally, dally, dally. Go back to site and sleep in the car. Grog makes friends with people who are still in the check-in office. I sleep.
Miss Kristi arrives at about 1AM. We load all of our stuff from the car into her van.. and head into the French Quarter for Halloween! Or at least the last few hours of it before dawn.
Walked around the Quarter.. did a little drinking. Went to the Hustler strip club. I generally try and avoid Bourbon street because dammit I'm not a freakin tourist, but friends of ours are there, and another friend is apparently..stripping.
I really miss living in New Orleans. Like really really miss it.
Much fun had by all. Dawn comes and we all head back to site. I crash out for a little. Wake up and stress about no tent poles.
Watch every single truck that comes on to site ... hoping it's the UPS truck. Wait. More waiting. Fall asleep. Wake up JUST in time to see the UPS truck pulling onto site. I dare not hope. Grog meanders over. I close my eyes and pray that tent poles are there. Open eyes to see Grog smile and say we have poles.
I have never been so excited to be receiving sticks in the mail.
Long story short. Tent was erected ( heh.. don't go there.. I already did).. Sleep in tent that night. Kristi, Grog and I wake up and drive 45 mintues to go to the French Quarter and get begnets and hot chocolate.. and drive Grog to the airport. Wave goodbye to him.. and Miss Kristi and I head off for the first of one million and one errands.
We toiled from Wednesday night to Saturday morning.. with no sleep,.. I played with power tools and build 4 large tables in 5 hours.
By Saturday morning. most of the booth was together. We had just put the finishing touches on the sign when cannon went off.
I spent most of the weekend still working on the booth while Kristi made sales. Managed to do much damage to my hands by the amount of hammering and sawing and who knows what.
Total for the weekend was encouraging. Actually managed to make enough to pay myself and Kristi.. and then some.
Spent Sunday night at the bar, spent mass amount of time with friends and mass amounts of alcohol.
All of Monday was devoted to working more on the booth. Tuesday headed back to the Quarter with Miss Kristi and spent the night walking around.. but mostly hanging out at One Eyed Jack's.. which used to be the Shim Sham, where Kristi and I spent so much of our time when the both of us lived next to the Quarter.
That night there was a screening in the back of "loudQUIETloud".. a film on The Pixies.. which just made the night even better.
Came home late.. slept. Spent most of Wednesday working on the booth again..
Left site on stupid early o'clock in the morning on Thursday.. and drove the 22 hours back to Phoenix.. listening to the Chronicles of Narnia the entire way.
Kristi called me about an hour ago.. to say that our total sales today.. was more than ALL of last weekend.
I think I'm going to like this venture.Quite alot.
Gah.. most babbling entry I think I've written in ages. But there you have it.. in all of its lack of glory. My tribute to the doctrine of verbal diareahha. Whee!
Time to go back to work.. Realising more and more how much I dislike Arizona.. and my Job.. and the "corporate" world that I currently exist in. I've always reviled it.. and now even more so. Like I tasted freedom for a couple of weeks.. and then get pushed back to this little beige box of hate.
Back to the cube I go!
