I woke up somewhat early this morning.. and so why is it now 5pm ish and I'm just now getting started on knitting? Methinks my skills at slacking exceed that which I had previously believed.
Pistachios are amazingly good.
To be fair, I've spent a good portion of the day doing photos and printing them to send in with my application to the Faerieworlds Festival. Also trying to get everything together with legal type paperwork to make sure that my business does indeed truly and honestly exists. Legally.
Onto my babbling about my roadtrip..
Me being me I can NEVER leave for anything on time. It's just a statistical improbability that would power any spaceship with a handy cup of tea.
Got home from work on Monday at around 8AM.. spent some time with Grog,.. headed out to get my tires rotated and stock up on road snacky food and caffeine. I know I harp on this occasionally, but my work shifts are 12 hours each.. and after 3 in a row I get pretty zonked, but I wanted to get on the road, so I stocked up good and plenty on the caffeine.
Tires done, went hunting for an air filter, but the wonky thing about having a new car is that if you need an air filter, you have to go to a dealership or wait for it to be sent. So I said screw it, i'll get it later. Got back to the house, spent a little more time with Grog, took a two hour nap... and then headed on my way.
Around 9pm reached Flagstaff, and realised "holy fuck I'm really tired".. pulled over and grabbed some tacos ( oh thank you sweet gods for tacos).. and laid down in the back of the car for a nap.
Woke up at around midnightish to see a blood red full moon. Totally forgot that it was the lunar eclipse.. Was somewhat creepified by it and decided NOT to take Route 666. Just couldn't bring myself to do it. Not while tired.. and there's only so much of "tempting the Fates" that I can do.
Beautiful uneventful drive .. I've missed seeing open plains and vast fields of NOTHING. Just grass and trees and sky. Yay New Mexico.
Was highly amused when.. while driving towards Las Vegas,NM.. saw a Bronco truck or some such driving in font of me with the license plate "GRRRRRR".. ( for those who don't know.. my license plate says "YAARRRR"). SO wish someone would have been behind us to take a picture.
Reached Colorado Springs.. and managed to catch some time with Miss Fluffy.. had a lovely lunch at Whole Foods .. did much girly bonding. Was very lucky since she was leaving for the European leg of her tour with Cirque in about 4 days.
Continued on that evening to Heather's place in Denver.. reached there abouts 6:30. Arrived just as she was getting home from work.. packed up her son Liam and headed to Mexican food.
Spent about 2 days at Heather's. Just lounging and visiting other friends in the area. Spent a day with tattoo artist and good friend Fritz. Played lots of guitar and chess with him. Totally had my ass beat.. but it was good times. Did get some new work done.. pictures to follow soon.
Headed onwards for the long boring part of the drive.. Iowa was pretty and full of bad drivers. And they have ninja Subways sandwich shops that they like to hide in random places. Bastards.
Listened to the Chronicles of Narnia again. Excellent road trip CD's. Keeps me awake and entertained.
Enter tons of more driving. Lots of pretty pretty trees and cows and scenery.
Reached Bristol on Friday night at around 8:30pm. Dirty, gross, tired, hungry.. and absolutely Elated.
Dragged all my crap up to the booth. Took a shower. Spent time with my bosses and local friends staying at the booth that weekend. Crashed the fuck out.
Worked the last 3 day weekend of Bristol, which was, for a last weekend, somewhat unimpressive.. but better than what the previous weekends had been from what I was told.
Had a grand time with old friends.. and making new ones. Bristol is the only show where I have local friends.. have no idea why that is.. but pretty much everyone that I meet in Wisconsin I want to keep in touch with.
Left for Minnesota on Tuesday afternoon to go and visit Gretchen the Awesome and her boy Mitch. Reached Minneapolis by evening. Found the Gretchen's place. Sat around and did catching up with Mitch and Gretch and seeing the cat Discus that they adopted from me a couple of years ago. Headed out with them for fooding. Then back to the house for margaritas and to watch the extended version of Serenity.
Next day Gretchen and I went to IKEA ( I'd never been.. it's pretty damn sweet).. and to The Mall Of America ( insert grand monster truck voice here). I'd been once a couple of years ago.. but it's always fun to visit every now and again. Ran into a bunch of rennies there which was fun. Miles and miles of walking and commerce. Spent too much money. Had a fabulous time. Whee!
Severe depression because I had to leave the next morning. Didn't get nearly enough time with Gretchen.
Didn't get to sleep until around 4AM since I spent most of the night figuring out how to load songs from my Ipod to Itunes as my old puter borked ages ago. Wanted to have as much music on the trip back as possible, and I had half of it on my puter and half on my Ipod.
Left at 6AM on Thursday.. had to be at work by 7pm on Friday.. Just drove and drove and drove.. only stopping for gas. It wasn't until New Mexico at around midnight that I stopped and slept for about 5 hours. Woke up.. gassed up... and continued driving. Didn't reach home until 3pm. Showered. Slept for 2 hours.. and then drove to work.
I made many offerings to the caffeine gods. Drank 2 Rockstars.. and managed to get through the night by sheer force of will.
Still kind of bummed to be back in Arizona. But I have to get more organized and together before I can have a scheduled circuit for World In Chains. Hence. I'm here. And mostly ok with it.
And one more note on my stupidity. I've been doing more house hunting. Found a gorgeous old house in Texas that needed lots of renovations.. but was a 2 story, 3600 sq ft mansion from 1907 that came with 5 acres of land. For 35K. It needed ALOT of renovations, but it was liveable. Put in a request for more info.. and was told it was under contract ( Of course!)..
Emailed a couple weeks later..to what I THOUGHT was the realtor. Got an email back saying " yup it's still available". Got all excited.
DUMBASS me emailed the wrong dang realtor. The guy I actually emailed was for a house in Missouri that I'm really not interested in. Blargh.
So.. neat Texas house is sold. And i'm a dumbass. It just wasn't meant to be. Dammit.
So.... on to that knitting I was talking about.
